Before I Go, You Should Know is operated by Echo-One Technologies Ltd. This page explains what happens to the information you provide through the funeral wishes, eulogy, My Final Voice, Order of Service and Tribute Video tools. Funeral wishes and eulogy information
When you sign in, we receive your account identifier, name (if supplied) and email address from the sign-in service. Your funeral wishes and eulogy questionnaire answers are saved against that account so you can return and edit them. This includes any information you choose to provide about your family, trusted contact, preferred funeral director or other professionals, beliefs, wishes, will, funeral plan, insurance, pets and where instructions are kept. We also record when your entries are created and updated.
Authorised Echo-One staff can view saved records to operate the service and respond to requests. Administrator access and actions are recorded. We use counts of nominated funeral directors to understand which firms people choose. Naming a funeral director or trusted contact in a saved draft does not send them your wishes.
The eulogy questionnaire currently collects information for us to prepare a tribute manually if you choose to submit it. Using that form does not automatically send your answers to an AI writing service.
What happens when you submit
Saving a draft and submitting it are separate choices. If you select Submit my wishes, the completed wishes are emailed to hello@beforeigoyoushouldknow.org and to our authorised team inbox at Smwaller76@gmail.com. If you entered a trusted person’s email address, we also email them a short branded PDF notice with your name, funeral preference, submission date, our contact address and brief guidance for later. We do not send them your full wishes in that notice. Please check their email address before submitting and let them know to expect the message. If you select Submit information in the eulogy form, your eulogy answers are emailed to hello@beforeigoyoushouldknow.org. The saved copy remains in your account. Resend delivers these emails, and copies may remain in the receiving mailboxes until deleted.
About Me QR pages
If you create an About Me page, we save the name, nickname, short bio and photo against your signed-in account. Selecting Download QR code or Print QR code publishes that page at a shareable web address. Anyone with the QR code or link can see it, so include only details and a photo you want to make public. You can edit or remove the page from the About Me creator. Removing it stops that link and printed QR codes from showing your page. Copies or screenshots others have made may remain outside our control.
My Final Voice
The script you write is saved in this browser on your device so you can come back to it there. Your audio recording stays in the browser while you record and listen back. If you select Submit final voice message, your name, email address, script and recording are sent through the site and emailed to hello@beforeigoyoushouldknow.org using Resend. The recording is an email attachment; it is not saved to your funeral wishes account. Deleting a recording before submission removes it from the current page. Deleting a submitted copy requires you to contact us about the email copy.
If you ask us to send a recording to a loved one later, we also receive that person’s name and email address, the occasion, your requested date or anniversary instructions, and, for an anniversary after death, a trusted contact’s name and email address. Our team manages these requests manually and may record the instructions in a delivery spreadsheet, contact the trusted person to confirm a death date, and check the recipient’s details before sending. Submitting the form does not automatically send the recording to your loved one. You can contact us to change or cancel a request.
Order of Service and Tribute Video
The Order of Service designer saves its text and selected photographs in this browser on your device. You can clear them with its reset button or by clearing this site's browser data. Printing or saving a PDF uses your browser's print function.
The current Tribute Video photo editor uses the pictures and music you select on your device to make a preview. It does not upload them to our servers or save them to your account. Closing or refreshing the page clears that editor session. The paid MP4 download is not available yet.
Website traffic
We count page views by date, page and the referring website’s domain to understand which pages are useful and how people find us. These counts do not store your IP address, a visitor identifier, cookies, or the full referring link. Repeat visits may be counted again. Authorised administrators can see these aggregate counts.
Sign-in and browser storage
Sign-in uses the account service and may require cookies or similar browser storage to maintain your session. The Final Voice script and Order of Service draft use local browser storage; the Tribute Video preview uses temporary browser memory. Clearing this site's browser data removes locally stored drafts and may sign you out. We do not use these local drafts to track your activity across other websites.
Why we use this information
We use the details you provide to offer the service you request: saving and returning to your wishes and eulogy answers, preparing submissions when you ask us to, and responding to your enquiries. We use limited account, administrative and security information to run and protect the service. Our legal bases under UK data protection law are providing the service you ask for and our legitimate interests in operating and securing it. Sending us a copy of a form or voice message happens only when you choose its submit button. We do not use your entries to send marketing messages merely because you use the site.
Who handles the information
We use a sign-in provider, website and database hosting, Resend for outgoing submissions, and email services for receiving and holding submitted copies. Their systems may process information outside the UK; contact us if you would like details of the providers and safeguards for a particular service. We do not sell your personal details. We may disclose information where required by law.
How long it stays and your choices
Saved wishes and eulogy answers currently have no automatic expiry: they remain until you ask us to delete them or the service changes or closes. We keep submitted email copies for as long as needed to handle and hold the information you asked us to receive, unless you ask us to delete them, subject to any legal requirements. A minimal administrator audit entry may remain after a saved record is deleted. Browser copies, such as a voice script or booklet, are controlled on your device and are not removed when we delete server records.
You can ask for a copy of your information, a correction or deletion, or raise an objection, restriction or other data protection request by emailing hello@beforeigoyoushouldknow.org. You may also have a right to data portability. Tell us whether your request also covers submitted emails and voice recordings. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Other people's details and sensitive information
Only add information about other people that is needed for your wishes or tribute. Your answers may mention living people or sensitive matters such as beliefs or health. Please do not enter passwords, PINs or payment card details; record where your family can find instructions instead. Downloaded and printed copies are under your control, so keep them somewhere appropriate.
